WAKA's DC kickball leagues were the subject of a great piece by NBC Washington.

Video on "Kickball: It's (Still) Not Just For Kids"

Check it out at that link and please share that with anyone you think might be interested (there are social sharing buttons right on that NBC Washington page or here on this blog post). The story includes mention about WAKA being a great way to meet new people, our players charity work and even mentions World Kickball Championship Weekend in Las Vegas.

WAKA Players! You have raised over $1 million for charity in the past four years alone! Now, we you think you can beat Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon to help put school supplies in classrooms? Here's how it works...

Have you caught that commercial recently that features a bouncing red kickball?

The ad is for, an online charity that allows public school teachers to post classroom project requests – donors then decide which projects they’d like to donate toward. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class, and even include kickballs and other athletic equipment. It’s a great way to get much need supplies directly into schools.

How this Relates to WAKA Kickball Leagues

Lately, we've had a lot of requests from WAKA players from around the country who want to come to Founders Cup Weekend to play in The Kickball Games 2011 but are having trouble rounding up a whole team to play. We've also had lots of requests from teams that are registered for The Kickball Games 2011 and are looking for players to fill out their rosters.

What gets WAKA kickball players fired up to play? A killer team playlist and “walk up songs" of course! Or, a DJ at the field if you play in WAKA’s FL St Johns league in Jacksonville! Check out these summer playlist songs that WAKA players have been rocking out to and sharing on our Facebook page.

Ever since the Founders Cup World Kickball Championship settled into the Pool Play/Elimination Bracket format, we've received questions about the bracket structure and why we do things the way we do. Why, for instance, we have brackets with fixed tracks for the various Pool Winners and Runners Up, instead of reseeding from scratch after Pool Play.
