KICKING IT Adult kickball leagues lets grown ups be kids again - Sun, 04/29/2012
It's about 8:45 on a Wednesday night and the lights are just flickering to life at Cameron Stadium in Washington.The sun dipped below the horizon a while ago, and the place where Washington & Jefferson College's football heroes and track stars compete has been hushed for a couple of hours. But a few cars start pulling into the gravel lot next to the stadium on Park Avenue. Students decked in sweatpants and hooded sweatshirts get out of the vehicles and kill time chatting. Fun fact: There are adult kickball leagues in 35 states in the U.S., as well as England and yes, Iraq. Their version of the Lombardi Trophy, called the Founders Cup, will be on the line on Saturday at the 14th Annual World Kickball Championship in Las Vegas, the biggest event in the sport. |
