DC Capital History
WAKA began as what is now known as The Washington, DC Capital League in 1998 and was the world's first official adult kickball league. Starting with eight teams, the league expanded in 1999 to include 13 teams, in 2000 to 16 teams, and expanded to 22 teams in 2010. Teams in the DC Capital League are dedicated to the goal of spreading the joy of kickball.
The Capital League has been featured in the Washington Post, Washington Times, Fox 5 DC, ABC 7, WUSA9, CBS Evening News, and CNN. Features have also been written about the league in nationwide newspapers and online publications.
The Capital League is broken into 2 conferences: Wednesday and Thursday. The league features an All-Star game mid-season to pit the Wednesday conference vs. the Thursday Conference. After the regular season, the league holds a four-round tournament for all teams, concluding with the Capital Cup final.

Founders Cup Eligibility
- This WAKA League/Season welcomes and encourages competitive teams.
- Due to the expected high level of play, all four Semifinalists of this Season's League Tournament will be eligible to receive an invitation to the next Founders Cup World Kickball Championship in Las Vegas.
- In addition, the Champion of the League Tournament will be GUARANTEED an invitation, to be offered in the next invite round following their clinching victory. (Other eligible teams are not guaranteed to receive invitations.)
- Subsequent Seasons of this League may or may not follow this Eligibility policy. Watch this space to each season to determine FC Eligibility status.
- All players are also eligible to participate in the Kickball Games social tournament.
