WAKApalooza Weekend is coming and its always a festival of color, kickball, and creative WAKA party people! Every year, WAKA players raise the bar on costumes, party props, and team accessories. In 2014, there was a HUGE homemade pirate ship at the field, a full circus, and a rowdy marathon game of Slip and Flip.

SHOCKWAVE shakes up Founders Cup, and other observations on the 2014 World Kickball Championship

In the end it all came down to a rematch... not of any past Founders Cup game, but of the Final of the Mid-Atlantic Regional held this June in Carrollton, VA. The veteran OSC Kickball crew came out ahead in the first showdown, but in the ultimate game of the World Kickball Championship, it was young SHOCKWAVE securing their place in kickball history with a 2-1 victory. It was the most impressive debut possible for the fleet-footed squad from Maryland -- and while the Cup didn't return to DC or Virginia Beach, the result does secure for the region at large another year atop the kickball food chain.

Founders Cup 2014: What to watch for...

Ranking teams for FC is never an exact science, but this year was especially rich with question marks. The level of talent in this field is so high that anything can happen in any given game. Here are just a few storylines to look for as the big day unfolds…

2014 World Kickball Championship Guidelines released

Here at WAKA, we're always trying to do things better than the year before. This year, one of our resolutions is to communicate more thoroughly about the intent and decision-making process of the Tournaments department and the Founders Cup Selection Committee. So as our 2014 World Championship Guidelines come out, we just wanted to use this forum to call attention to the larger changes, and explain a little about how we arrived at them.

Since the 2013 WAKAPalooza Weekend concluded, we've surveyed our players in detail and had some really deep internal philosophical discussions about what Founders Cup represents. This process led us to certain guiding themes to help us navigate our policy decisions -- and perhaps the largest of these is to move in the direction of stronger team identity.
