Relax and Take the D subdue the competition -- and other observations on the 2017 Founders Cup World Kickball Championship

The 20th annual Founders Cup, and the 10th of the Las Vegas era, proved perhaps the most unpredictable tournament in memory -- while at the same time featured easily the most dominant performance by a champion team in their elimination bracket.

Sofa King Good crowned at last, and other observations on the 2015 World Kickball Championship

It took Sofa King long... but the Founders Cup is finally heading to the West Coast.

After nearly 10 years as a franchise, countless league championships in CA Hollywood and CA Studio, 2 Regional championships, 6 FC appearances and 4 trips to the Semifinals, Sofa King Good (#2) finally made it to the Finals – and didn’t stop there, defeating The Situation (#4) 5-2 to secure the first World Kickball Championship for Los Angeles.

SHOCKWAVE shakes up Founders Cup, and other observations on the 2014 World Kickball Championship

In the end it all came down to a rematch... not of any past Founders Cup game, but of the Final of the Mid-Atlantic Regional held this June in Carrollton, VA. The veteran OSC Kickball crew came out ahead in the first showdown, but in the ultimate game of the World Kickball Championship, it was young SHOCKWAVE securing their place in kickball history with a 2-1 victory. It was the most impressive debut possible for the fleet-footed squad from Maryland -- and while the Cup didn't return to DC or Virginia Beach, the result does secure for the region at large another year atop the kickball food chain.

Founders Cup 2014: What to watch for...

Ranking teams for FC is never an exact science, but this year was especially rich with question marks. The level of talent in this field is so high that anything can happen in any given game. Here are just a few storylines to look for as the big day unfolds…

Founders Cup 2011 Allegations of Roster Fixing

In late October, we were made aware that various message boards and Facebook postings were discussing the possibility that some team rosters at this year’s Founders Cup had been inappropriately bolstered with unregistered and ineligible players.

We take allegations such as this very seriously and undertook an in-depth review and analysis of the rosters for all teams participating in the 2010 and 2011 Founders Cup tournaments. This review identified a few isolated problems on teams who did not make it through to the final rounds, but there was no evidence of widespread roster fixing.

During the review we were able to identify some inconsistencies between WAKA staff across the country regarding the placement of players on teams during a season of play. As a result we are introducing stricter controls within our systems and undertaking a new internal training program to ensure there is a consistency in policies and practices across all markets.
