5 Ways to Have Fun At Work

Shake off that post-lunch food coma! We're sharing our favorite tips for adding fun to your day at the office. Try one of these ideas with your work crew this week and let us know how it goes!

1. Throw a weekly office party or create a tradition with your coworkers.

Depending on your office culture, this could be anything. Try a “sundae Monday” with ice cream treats in the conference room, a weekly “foods from around the world” potluck lunch, or even simpler, you could get a giant puzzle for the break room that you all work on throughout the week. Try a “wacky rules” Friday and let your coworkers take turns making up a funny rule for the whole office to follow for a whole day like “talk in an accent” or “no sitting when you are on the phone”.

2. Host an office scavenger hunt and lead your coworkers on a journey to find a hidden prize.

Strategically place a few sticky notes with riddles and clues, and lead your coworkers on a journey to find a hidden prize. Make it interesting and pool your cash together to make the prize worth it.

3. Create a minute-to-win-it office game challenge.

Work doesn’t have to be all business, all the time. Grab some office supplies and put 60 seconds on the clock – it’s game time! Challenge your coworkers to a series of timed games using common workplace items and give a prize to the winners.  Here are some of our favorite office challenges:

  • Speed Eraser- Line up seven cups and bounce seven pencils into them using the eraser. Try to get all seven in one minute.

  • Clipboard Tennis – Create teams of 2 people to play this relay game. Crumple up a piece of paper for the ball and grab two clipboards for paddles. Set up a course and hit the ball back and forth as many times as you can in one minute.

  • Paper Clip Shoot Out – Lay six paper clips out on a desk or table and grab a handful of rubber bands. Stand five feet from the desk and shoot the rubber bands to knock each paper clip off the desk. Race the clock and knock off all six in one minute.

4. Play dodgeball with your department.

This game is the ultimate stress reliever after a long day! Divide your coworkers into two teams and head to the conference room. Use tape to make a line in the center of the room and push the tables and chairs out of the way to make space for a court. Make dodgeballs with 2-3 sheets of paper crumpled into a large ball and secured with tape. You'll want to make six- ten dodgeballs (depending on the size of your teams.) Game on!

5. Create or join an office team or club.

If your office has a book club or volleyball team, join! It’s a great way to bond with your colleagues and something new to talk about at work. If your company doesn’t have a team or club, start one! We have a ton of resources to help company teams get started and can match your group with a league in your city.
