CLUBWAKA Happenings: WAKApalooza Charity Spotlight

Sometimes we’re overwhelmed by all the amazing stories and inspiration that CLUBWAKA members share, from creative team fundraisers to support important causes, to thoughtful community events that remind us to give back and be grateful.

At WAKApalooza, we had the the opportunity to meet some amazing people who are doing amazing things for our community. Here’s a round up of some of our favorite inspiring stories from WAKApalooza 2016:

Every year at WAKApalooza, we award a Charity Heroes prize for the team that helps to make an impact in their community and gives back to a cause that is important to them. This years winners, Team Home Depot Boston Store 2667, raised more than $62,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Led by Sean O’Connell, the team held a series of fun fundraiser events including a flip cup tournament, Kentucky Derby party, softball tournament, and a camp away weekend.

Boston CLUBWAKA member Emily Fletcher is a leader—on and off the field. When she’s not leading her team the Rotten Leprechauns, traveling the world, or partying on a CLUBWAKA vacation, she’s volunteering for DAR Project Patriot. Emily and other volunteers, collect travel sized toiletries and products to create kits for military families and wounded military personnel. She started organizing collections with CLUBWAKA members from the MA Minuteman League in Boston, and put out a call for donations at WAKApalooza 2016. All weekend long, CLUBWAKA members collected hotel samples and donated enough products to make thirty eight (38) #ProjectPatriot family kits.

Throughout WAKApalooza 2016, team Beaches Be Crazy from Southern California hosted a Breast Cancer Research Bracelet Fundraiser in support of their teammate Amy Solis. The team sold special limited editied bracelets and raised $825 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
