Daily Habits That Will Make You Happier

What do you do when you get home from work?

Check your phone. Check your email. Check your social media. Catch up on your Nextflix queue... whatever it is, it's probably something with a computer. And, that's lovely. We all know a little screen time can be a great way to decompress but is it going to make you happier?!

Assuming you're like most of us who want to live our best, most fun lives - skip the streaming and schedule time to get out and play.

Studies show that people who schedule "me time" for fun or exercise in their day have more energy, get better sleep, and are more engaged in their work and communities. Whether you like to shoot hoops with your roommate, climb at the rock gym, or play dodgeball with your team, taking time to move your body and enjoy life is the key to keeping your spark alive.

Need more convincing? Here are 4 reasons you should schedule play time for yourself this week:

1. Your health - Sports and games are proven stress reducers, so taking a break from your busy-ness to play your favorite sport or game will lead to less stress in your day and greater well being. Bonus - playing sports gives you a great outlet for any frustrations from your day.

2. Focused time to decompress - Purposely setting aside time for yourself gives you a chance to let your brain rest and recharge so you'll be more focused and productive later.

3. Catch up with friends - Sometimes there are weeks that go by when you haven't had a chance to grab a coffee with co-worker much less have a "girls night out". Use your play time to catch up with your besties and join a team together or meet up for a pick up game. Not only will you get a great group sweat sesh, but you'll be able to learn from them about the latest "must-try" restaurant openings or which new app is saving their week from boredom.

4. Learn something new - Want to get smarter? Want to stretch your comfort zone? Schedule play time to try a new game or sport and learn a new skill!
