Interview with Ken Schneider of Freakin' Epic about The Kickball Games 2011

Meet The Kickball Games newcomers, Freakin’ Epic. Originally Called “Booze on First” in Fall of 2009 in AZ Fiesta and have since been a part of 10 plus different teams spread across the city of Phoenix, AZ and Portland, OR. We have reunited of sorts for Las Vegas 2011. We hope to have our team back in full force in fall ’11 at Mountain Vista Park. Ken Schneider is captain of Freakin’ Epic and looking to bring the party back to Vegas after enjoying Kickball Games last year with the KILFs and winning best costumes. I don’t think WAKA and the Kickball Games knows what they have in store for them when Freakin’ Epic rolls up to the fields. We are: Freakin’ Epic!

WAKA: How did the team Freakin’ Epic come together?

Ken Schneider: This is a story all about how

Freakin’ Epic got kicked, pitched up right arm

And we’d like to take a minute just sit right there

We’ll tell you how we became the freakin epic team of Phoenix Arizona.
In east phoenix started and prospered,

on the playground were we spent most of our days.
Playing, drinking, relaxin all cool

And kicking the red ball out at mountain vista,

When a couple of guys up to some kind of fun

Started playin kickball out in the field

We got in one little game and my mind got scared

And thought “Should we be having this much fun?”

It was about 7 or 8 when the game was done,

I whistled for a cab and when it was near

The license plate said epic and had freak on a leash on the radio

If anything I could say this cabbie was a star!

But I thought, nah forget it, yo cabbie on to the bar

We pulled up to the bar about 9 or 10

And I yelled to the cabbie “Rock and roll man”

Looked at our new bar and realized this place was so kickin

We decided that We Are: Freakin’ EPIC.

How long have you been playing WAKA kickball?

We feel that there is no starting point of “playing kickball”. It is an inherent point in time when your cells bond and mutate to create what is known as the kb2 atom and then and only then can someone know and feel what kickball is all about. We have had much debate and some theories tested on this matter and after many trips to the local pub, I mean lab, we have found that without further scientific funding we may never really know the answer to this great question.

What is WAKA kickball like in Phoenix, AZ?

There’s only one rule about Phoenix Kickball. You do not talk about Phoenix Kickball!

What are Freakin’ Epic’s secrets to success?

  1. We are Dead sexy from bottom of the lineup to the top
  2. We can throw a kickball and hit a mountain.
  3. We drink… A lot.
  4. Steroids... There isn’t drug testing in Vegas is there?
  5. We have the capability of generating 1.21 gigawatts of electricity in one game of kickball.
  6. We have climbed Mount Everest uphill both ways
  7. We have NASA do our stat sheets
  8. We put the Kick back in Kickball
  9. Chuck Norris, Jonathan Goldsmith (Most interesting man in the world) and Isaiah Mustafa (Old Spice Guy) are all currently on our roster.

What are you looking forward to most at The Kickball Games in Las Vegas this year?

Being featured on ESPN 8 “the ocho” and of course Las Vegas: A city built of hot sand, broken dreams and $5 lobster. A city home to a sporting event greater than the World Cup, World Series and World War II combined..

Which of the 5 superlative categories would Freakin’ Epic like to win at The Kickball Games 2011?

“There is no greater sense of accomplishment than the victory in one’s own heart when you can walk away from an event like the Kickball Games with one million dollars cold hard cash and knowing that you left it…. What? That’s not the prize?! What the?? I thought that’s why we were doing this whole thing? Why didn’t someone tell me before??”

Can you give us a sneak peek of what Freakin’ Epic may be bringing to The Kickball Games this year?

Epic Epicness

What would you like to say to the other 2011 Kickball Games teams?

Hello, kickballers, look at your team, now back to ours, now back at your team, now back to ours. Sadly, you aren’t us, but if you stopped playing like ladies and switched to Freakin’ Epic, you could play like us. Look down; back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the team your team could play like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it; it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your team plays like Freakin Epic and not your team. We’re on a horse.
