Lasalle Blanks of The Situation on the team's recent invitation to the Founders Cup World Kickball Championship

Lasalle Blanks, captain of The Situation wants to show WAKA nation why Hampton Roads is one of the most dominant kickball areas in the country.

The Situation from WAKA's VA Southside league in Norfolk, Virginia is headed to the Founders Cup World Kickball Championship in October. A veteran Founders Cup team, they are also the 2010 Fall VA Southside league runner-ups to Panik Attack (lost 4-3 in extra innings in the end of season tournament championship game).

WAKA: WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST AT THE FOUNDERS CUP WORLD KICKBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN LAS VEGAS THIS YEAR?

Lasalle: What I love about the FC is that you see the die-hard competitive, elite teams go at it and go at it hard (on the field, i mean).  We're all obsessed with kickball and it shows when we're all out there giving it our all. At one FC, someone told me it's cool to finally not be considered "the too serious team" like they were back home. At FC, every team is "the serious team" back home - and it's awesome. The competition gets intense but the respect for each other is amazing and that's what's awesome about the FC. It's also very, very cool seeing old friends again from teams across the country.

THE SITUATION IS A TEAM FULL OF FOUNDERS CUP VETERANS, WITH A NATIONAL TITLE UNDER YOUR BELT FOR SOME OF YOU. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW TEAMS COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Set a curfew....and if you get eliminated, head to the beer tent right away, the giant slip n slide....and watch out for streakers. With the new rules making it tougher to get a bid, soak up everything and enjoy it - you never know if you'll be back next year.

HAVE YOU MADE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR 2011 ROSTER THAT WILL BE HELPFUL TO THE TEAM AT THE TOURNAMENT?

Yes, but I'm not telling you :)

ARE THERE ANY TEAMS YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO FACE IN POOL PLAY THIS YEAR?

Hey when you come to Vegas for the FC you better be prepared to play anyone and WANT to play them. If you don't think you can hang with the best, stay home and save some money.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN DURING THE TOURNAMENT FOR THE SITUATION TO WIN FOUNDERS CUP XIV?

We need to win.

A more thoughtful answer would be: getting a lot of breaks to go our way. Play hard, play smart, stay focused and not get worn out. And if you ask anyone who saw us win as Frosty Balls in 2008, you also need bananas (long story). Winning the Founders Cup World Kickball Championship is a freaking thrill. I still replay that final game over and over in my head. It's something you never forget.

We beat the always excellent Meatballs team 2-0 in that game. As many of you guys know in WAKA, teams change over the years and now we're The Situation. Since 2010, we might be the only team to beat both Meatballs AND the defending World Kickball Champions Panik Attack (also from our same league) and we're very proud of that. They are the top two teams in WAKA kickball and have set a standard of excellence that's been awesome. We look forward to giving it our best. We also look forward to joining Panik Attack and the Emperors Club in showing WAKA why our part of Virginia (Hampton Roads, the 757) - is one of the dominant kickball areas in the country.

Enough talk - is it October yet?
