WAKA Kickball & Social Sports at 16: Share Your Favorite Kickball Memory

After 16 years of WAKA Kickball & Social Sports, it’s time to crank things up a notch and thank our community for all your support. That’s why we’re throwing the first official KICKBALL DAY brought to you by Daysoftheyear.com on Thursday, April 17th — celebrating our love of kickball and all the WAKA Smiles that have been created throughout WAKA nation.

We know that you all have your own fond Kickball memories so that's why we are inviting you to share them and be a part of the official Kickball Day commemorative book! This e-book will serve as a chronicle of WAKA Kickball history as told by our staff, players, and friends. All month long, we’ll be capturing your kickball stories and photos to create a sharable gallery for us all to enjoy!

Here’s a glimpse at some of the favorite kickball memories from WAKA staff members:

“When the gym teacher brought out the ball and everybody immediately got excited!” -Tom M.

“Down by one, our ball, bottom of the last inning, 2 outs. I was sliding into third base as the ball was coming to the basemen. He was standing a foot in the line of path The guy flew up in the air and his glasses flew off. I apologized about 3 times before jumping over him to go home and tie the game. The guy behind me ran in a got the point to win.” - Zack

Winning the first ever DC Adams Morgan league championship and playing in the Founders Cup on the National mall!” - Kelly T.

"First time I kicked the ball over the fence in grade school (it was a very small field)." - Nathan P.

“Seeing WAKA on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Whoda thunk it!?” - Joey C.

This one's easy. It's my 2nd season of WAKA and it's a WWE themed night. My buddy Tim dresses like Stone Cold Steve Austin. I mean full on: cut off jean shorts, military boots, leather vest with no shirt and a bald cap. I brought my speakers to field and he asks me to play Stone Colds intro music when he goes up to kick. As I oblige him in his request, he somehow tears off his cut off jean shorts and is strutting up to the plate in a black speedo. The pitch comes, he sends it straight up the elevator shaft, he turns around and our friend quickly tosses him a beer that he gulps down. (Mostly pours on himself).” - Michael H.

“Kicking my first home run.” - Alex
