WAKA Kickball Quilt - 4 years of memories

WAKA interview with Karen Fletcher, Los Angeles area regional coordinator and former Tinseltown, Canyon and Celebrity league community coordinator

Karen Fletcher has been playing kickball for over 4 years and recently had her sister help her recycle some of her kickball shirts into a glorious quilt. We sat down with Karen for a little Q&A session.

Q: We love the idea of recycling your kickball shirts into something you can enjoy and treasure always, how did you come up with this brilliant idea to preserve your shirts?

My shirts are very sentimental, especially the ones from “Your Mom”. I don’t really wear them, but I could not even consider getting rid of them, so I figured this was a way to keep them all and repurpose them into a usable keepsake.

Q: So you have 9 shirts that make up your quilt, is this the total amount of seasons you’ve played kickball or did you just decide 9 was enough to make the size quilt you were going for?

I started my kickball career as team captain of Your Mom in CA Tinseltown. From the first time we all met, we had an unspeakable chemistry and bond. We played together for 9 solid seasons before we decided to retire the team. There is a shirt from each of our 9 seasons, From Spring 2008- Fall 2012. That team was and still is a big happy family!

Q:  Tell us a little more about the “Mom” theme behind your shirts.

The Mom trend goes off our team name “Your Mom”. We tried to come up with a new shirt design each season.

Q: We all know it’s hard to choose just one amazing kickball memory but out of all the years you’ve been playing, which is your favorite memory?

My favorite kickball memory, is hands down, my engagement at The Kickball Games in 2011!  It was such a great day and so amazing to celebrate with my favorite people, doing one of my favorite things!

Q: Now that you’ve created a quilt masterpiece, what do you plan on creating with the future shirts?

Who knows! I have so many of them I could probably make drapes!
