Now on to the important stuff… The Team Ramrod Award!!!

This week it looked liked the 80's were back in full force until the field was invaded by pirates… including the 5 minute decostuming before the kick of one un-named pirate.

As I mentioned last week, there is criteria I am looking for. This week, some of the things I saw and awarded points for:

Showing up at the fields

Showing up at the bar

Team theme for week 2

Captains turning in their head shots to me

Having a great close game without arguing

Bribing the refs

Team cheers at the field

Good sportsmanship

Props (for the theme)

Teams taking part of bar social festivities

Hot chicks wearing skimpy clothes (I'm a guy, deal with it)

Last two teams at the bar (team = 3+ people)

Team Ramrod Award Standings:

Drinking Again and Looking to Score 185pts

Drinkers With a Kicking Problem 175pts

Free Ballers 110pts

TITDAK 105pts

CH2M Hill Team 70pts

Offensive Language 70pts

Pitch Slapped 70pts

UpDawg 65pts

I give points for darn near anything cool, so if you have a cool idea and you're wondering if it will get you points, it will.

80's was cool, so was pirates, but time to step it up. Pirates could have had a cardboard cutout of a pirate ship and bunches of sword fights in the outfield. I was really expecting to see at least one pirate chest and a peg leg. On the 80's side there could have been a wedding singer, walkman, Ronald Reagan.

Meet The Board:

Karl Brauner:

Customer Representative, close personal friend of Kirk Herbstreit.

Karl likes rolling balls and man bun- ting. Usually players make fun of any guys munting a ball, but for some reason Karl gets away with it. Any league / WAKA issues or sug- gestions should go to him.

Elizabeth-Kelly Trammel:

Social Chair, in the kickball ironman hall of fame for playing with a broken hip. Elizabeth Kelly, or EK as she is known around the world, loves the pink, anything Lilly and always wears a pearl necklace. You may catch her drinking something other than beer, but make no mistake, she can still whip you in flip cup. If you want to be involved with our social events, or just want to mention how awesome they are, talk to EK.

Chris Foster:

Head Referee, encyclopedia on all things WWII or baseball.

Chris is best known for wearing a chicken suit to a Braves game and impersonating David Arquette. On the kickball field Chris can play any position, so his captains have typically placed him in right field to prevent him from showing up the rest of the team. Any questions on rules, how to do things, or disputes, and Chris is your guy.

Aaron Smith:

League President in perpetuity, widely accepted blowout party thrower.

Aaron has been around since the Greenville league’s infancy. He has served as league president for almost as long. Sadly, the league president is only a figurehead position and thus Aaron is good for nothing when trying to get things done. He mainly holds this position so the board gets invited to all his parties. For a good time, give Aaron a call.

Meet Your Captains: The captains lead your team onto the field. Below you'll find some pictures and bios of the board and some of the captains. If you don't see your captain here, bug them

Kylie Kotowski, Captain, Drinkers with a Kicking Problem: Opposing teams should

be cautious...Kylie is a real ball buster on and off the field. Cups are a

necessity when playing alongside this feisty phenom...especially those

containing beer and liking to be flipped.

Tyler Olson, Captain, This Is The Dawning Of The Age Of Kickballius: Pretty much in it for the drinking

Yvette Gonzalez: Co-Captain, Drinking Again and Looking to Score, Nanny, Kickball All-Star

Yvette likes to make the guys dance when she is pitching. When she is not playing kickball you can usually find her at the bar with a drink :)

Eric Van Beek: Captain, Offensive Language
Eric was born and raised in Southern Illinois where he met his wife Beth his last year of high school. They were married in May of 2009 and currently reside in Simpsonville, SC with their Great Dane, and two miniature dachshunds (Kirk: and new child!). Eric moved to SC straight after college where he earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. He currently works as a Chemical Engineer in Greenville, SC.

As usual, Kirk has all of the picks for this week's games:

Field 1 - Game 1 - TITDAK v. Drinkers with a Kicking Problem

Ref: CH2M

Kirk: First let me say that jaywalking is a stupid offense and that just because I was walking across 385 at 2:00 am doesn't mean anything. Moving on: TITDAK had a good first week tieing the Free Ballers, but had some serious difficulty when it came to playing against the league superteam of Offensive Language. Drinkers with a Kicking Problem, on the other hand, were quite pleased to be able to play last week since they had enough girls. And, they looked good doing it, winning against their refs this week 4-1. This game probably sits with TITDAK (though KWADP will need their women to show up again this week). If TITDAK can play some good defense throughout the game, they should have a good shot at winning. Without that defense they probably won't have much of a chance. I'll pick Drinkers with a Kicking Problem to win this one by a couple of runs.

Field 2 - Game 1 - Offensive Language v. Updawg

Ref: Pitch Slapped

Kirk: Once again Offensive Language has asserted it's authority. After winning 4-0 last week against TITDAK, they have an opportunity this week to strike fear into the hearts of kickball players everywhere… But I think this one could be difficult for them. UpDawg took a loss last week, but I know there is some talent on this team. They could come out and start winning every week. Unfortunately, I don't believe this will be that week. I'll choose Offensive Language to win it with their legs this week.

Field 1 - Game 2 - CH2M Hill v. Free Ballers

Ref: UpDawg

Kirk: I can't make a pick since I'm calling the game, but here are some keys to the game. CH2M is going to need make some good kicks to get around on the Free Ballers defense. There is definitely some room to score as the Free Ballers haven't held anyone on defense below 3 runs yet. For the Free Ballers, scoring is important as they have had some difficulty getting runs, but with CH2M it will be their bunt defense that matters. They will need a big game from the catcher and third base positions to have a chance at this one.

Field 2 - Game 2 - Pitch Slapped v. Drinking Again and Looking to Score

Ref: TITDAK

Kirk: I think the odds makers have this one wrong. All the numbers comign out of Vegas show Drinking Again and Looking to Score as 4 run favorites coming into this game. I've been to see both teams practice and I've re-watched a lot of the game film from the past two weeks, and I have to tell you, I just don't see it. That’s not to say that Drinkign Again and Looking to Score isn't playing well, they are, but their defense is good but their kicking could use some improvement. The top of the order has a lot of speed with Kanye leading off, and there is definitely some leg behind the reformed soccer player Grant (short a sound… he's from the UK). That said, they will need more than a couple of runs against a team that has proven it can score. Pitch Slapped just barely lost to a bit rusty Offensive Language and pulled out a one run victory in a shoot out with UpDawg. They can round the bases and they have proven they know how to win a close game. Either way, this one should be a lot of fun to watch. I'll choose Pitch Slapped in the upset special of the week.

Thanks everyone and I'll see you in the pressbox!
